Screen Time and Sleep for Better Health

Screen time has become a significant part of children’s lives, but excessive use can disrupt sleep and overall health. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than one hour of screen time daily for children aged 2-5 and consistent limits for older kids.

Blue light from screens can interfere with melatonin production, making it harder for kids to fall asleep. Encourage a tech-free hour before bedtime to promote relaxation.

Create a calming bedtime routine, such as reading a story or listening to soft music. Ensure the bedroom is dark and quiet, and keep screens out of the sleeping area.

Adequate sleep is essential for physical growth, emotional regulation, and cognitive development. School-aged children need 9-12 hours of sleep per night, while teens require 8-10 hours.
